Hi,

Im going to have a vacation in Japan next year and the flight ticket was confirmed! I did review and have some questions to ask for the JR pass.

I found differents train and seems like not under JR train company and it seems like "mini-train" maybe.
1. Can you explain the above statement?

If its not under JR company, then if I purchase the unlimited JR pass for 7days.
2. Can I use the the same pass also for the above mentioned train? (Assume not under JR company).

Im going to travel from tokyo to Sapporo (tomamu, moiwa mt, odori park and so on) using domestic flight(not yet confirmed). The questioms are,
3. Is it possible to use train from tokyo- Sapporo/Hokkaido?
4. Is the JR pass stikl valid/can be used at Sapporo?

Then the last question, after Sapporo, im going to travel to osaka (using domestic flight(tbc)), then slowly move to one to another places and end at tokyo (target to using JR pass).
5. Would you recommend for the unlimited JR pass?

Kindly advice. Hope to hear you soonest.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Hi there,

1.) Well, it is quite simple. You can take any JR train to travel around Japan. There are some regional rail lines run by private companies, these are not included. An example would be the Fujikyu line running between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko station.

2.) Sorry, I'm not sure which train you mean here?

3.) Yes, the Hokkaido Shinkansen is covered. As well as all JR lines around Hokkaido.

4.) Yes

5.) It all depends on where you go and how many days you visit. In general, the JR Pass is a very cost-effective option. For example, a one way Tokyo - Sapporo alone is almost the price of a 7 day JR Pass. As you can see, I have nearly 15.000 posts on the Japan Rail pass and travel in Japan. When the JR Pass makes sense to customers, I definitely recommend one but read some of the other forum posts and you'll see that it does not fit every itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
