Hello,
I am currently in Japan on a visa that is not eligible in getting a JR rail pass. However, two family members who are visiting in the spring are eligible and are currently intending to get them. I will need to reserve tickets ahead of time because it's the season where most people are traveling to the areas I am going (Kyoto and Nara). If my family buys the tickets in advance, is it possible for me to reserve shinkansen tickets ahead of time using their JR Rail passes or do I have to wait until they come to Japan to reserve tickets?
Thank you.

Hi there,
Your family members would already have to be in Japan and have exchanged their JR Pass in order to reserve seats.
Kind regards,
Daniel
