You can spread out the days between when you use the card? Like, use two days of a 7-day Pass in a row and then not use the pass again for 10 days. Does that work? Or do you have to use all seven days of the Pass in a row?

Hi there,
The JR Pass is counted in consecutive days, in other words it starts counting down from day one and will finish on day 7.
Most users already get their monies worth in 2-3 days, such as by making a return Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Alternatively, you may want to have a look at Regional passes, that in some cases are flexible.
Hope this helps :)
