Hi there,

My Partner and I are travelling to Japan on the 5th of Sep. Our plan is Tokyo - Nagano - Kyoto - Osaka.

My question is, do we need to book Shinkansen in advance? We both have JR Passes which covers us for all internal travel to these destinations. I just want to make sure we don't need to book the trains prior.

Thank you!
Indigo

Hi Indigo,

You don't have to but can do so if you want to have seating secured.

Generally I would recommend getting your tickets the day before travel but you can also just go to the station and get on the train.
