Hello,

I'm a little confused about what would be the best option for me and wanted to ask for opinions.

I'll be in Japan for 8 (the day when I arrive in Japan and leave back to the US are inclusive). We will be staying in Tokyo for 5 days and the rest of the days we'll be spending in Kyoto. We are flying in and out from Narita's airport. We'd like to use the bullet train to get in and out from Kyoto.

Would the best option for us be to buy the 7 day JR pass or should I consider a cheaper/alternative option?

Thank you

Hi there,

The JR Pass is a good option here, the cost of a 7-day JR Pass is similar to the cost of a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Any additional travel after is basically what you save. This could be local JR lines in Tokyo, the Narita Express from the Airport and perhaps even a day trip from Tokyo?

Hope this helps,
Daniel
