Hi
We arrive in Tokyo on 4 May and need to get to our hotel in Asakusa. We are also intending to visit Hakone on 6 May and travelling to Matsumoto on 7 May. Will we have any difficulty getting a seat/reservations given that we are travelling during Golden week?
Thanks

Hi there,

I don't think so, there are plenty of trains to Hakone and most trains to Asakusa are local and do not have reserved seats to begin with.

However, you may want to play it save and reserve tickets to Matsumoto 2-3 days in advance. I would travel there using the Azusa limited express from Shinjuku. It is a very nice ride and cheaper than partially using the Shinkansen. On a clear day, you can just spot the top of Fuji when the train makes a turn around Kofu.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
