Activating JR Pass on Day Other than Arrival Date

Hi,

I am visiting Japan next month for 10 days and plan on buying the one-week JR Pass. However, I would like to be able to use the pass on days 4-10 of my trip. I understand that the voucher can be exchanged at the airport for the pass, but must this exchange take place on the same day that I arrive? And if not, will I have to return to the airport on day 4 to activate the pass, or can I activate the pass remotely?

Thanks for any help.

Hi there,

I recommend reading How to exchange the JR Pass you can do so at he airport but there are many other stations as well.

You can also activate it at the airport and select a later first-day fo use.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you so much!

One further question: when do I select the "first-day for use"? Is that something I choose as I am buying the pass on this site? Or is that chosen when I exchange the voucher for my pass in Japan?
