Activate JR Pass while transit in Narita

Hi Daniel,

We plan a family trip to Japan this July. Our flight will be from Jakarta - Narita (Terminal 1) - New Chitose.
As our arrival in New Chitose will be on 7.15 pm, we can't activate our JR Pass as the office has already closed (7.00 pm on the website).
So, is it possible to activate the JR Pass while we're on transit in Narita? That way we can directly use the JR Pass from New Chitose to Sapporo later at night.

And we need the guidance/map of the JR Pass Exchange Office location in Narita Terminal 1, if possible.

Hi Okim,

You could but would have to enter and exit customs. There may also be a queue at the exchange office at Narita Airport. I would not attempt this, unless you have at least 3 hours to make the transfer.

Also don't worry about it too much, the train fare from Shin-Chitose airport to Sapporo is not a lot.
