Hello. I think I am going to have to get the 14 day Japan Rail Pass but I am trying to find a way around it as I don't need the full 14 days.

Here is my itinerary. Can anyone advise me on whether the 7 day pass could work?

Thank you.

2/9 - arrive Tokyo Narita airport and overnight Tokyo
3/9 - Tokyo to Kyoto
4/9 - Kyoto
5/9 - Kyoto
6/9 - Kyoto
7/9 - Kyoto to Koyasan
8/9 - Koysan
9/9 - Koyasan to Hakone
10/9 - Hakone to Tokyo
11/9 - Tokyo
12/9 - depart Tokyo Narita airport 10am

Hi there,

A 7 day JR Pass would make the most sense if you could make a return Tokyo - Kyoto within 7 days. You will do Tokyo - Kyoto - Hakone in 7 days, this is slightly below the cost of a 7 day JR Pass and (unless you would add more travel) the most cost efficient option.

Enjoy your visit to Japan!
