Hello,

I'm travelling to Japan in May, arriving at Narita Airport and from there staying in:

Tokyo 05/31-06/09
Osaka 06/09-06/14
Nagoya 06/14-06/19
Tokyo 06/19-06/24

Do you recommend getting the rail pass even inside the city of Tokyo? If so for how many days?

Also, Is the Tokaido Shinkansen included? Do all bullet trains have the same route to Tokyo-Osaka?

Thank you,
Edd

Hi Edd,

Yes, the Tokaido Shinkansen is covered by the JR Pass. I would use a 7 day JR Pass for travel to Osaka, Nagoya and back to Tokyo, then use normal tickets or a Suica card for local transport around Tokyo.

Shinkansen indeed all travel the same route, the only difference is the stations each train service stops at.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello again,

First of all it does help, second, since I will be traveling for more than 7 days to osaka/nagoya and back again, can I use the jrpass and buy tickets in advance on the shinkansen for my return to tokyo?

Thank you so much,
Edd
