Hello!

My family of 16 people (mixture of middle-aged adults and young kids) will be visiting Osaka and Kyoto in December this year. Estimated to have at least 8 big luggages in total. It will be 2-way return trip from Osaka to Kyoto.

We are planning to take the railway from Osaka to Kyoto and will be staying near Osaka Station.

Will you suggest we take the shinkansen from Shin-Osaka station or Special Rapid Railway from Osaka Station?

Do you suggest we purchase the JR pass? Or normal tickets is sufficient?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I would just buy normal tickets for your trip Osaka - Kyoto, both cities are only 30 minutes apart from each other by Shinkansen or rapid JR service. While the Shinkansen are around 2,600yen/one way. Local trains are only 560yen and are as fast.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
