Hello and many thanks in advance for taking the time to read/reply to this.

We will be travelling to Japan for 15 days from 14 March to 29 march. The plan is to do:

4 days in Tokyo (landing in Haneda)

2 days in the Takayama region (including 1 night in Fukuchi)

3 days in Kyoto

1 day in Nara

1 day in Hiroshima

1 day in Miyajima

3 days in Osaka (leaving from Osaka)

Should we go for a 7 day pass and activate it when leaving Tokyo or would you advise us getting a 14-day one?

Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi Damien,

Is your itinerary fixed already? If you are flexible, consider moving Kyoto after Hiroshima/Miyajima. This would allow you to travel to Hiroshima and to the Kansai Area with a 7 day JR Pass. These routes cost the most by far, for instance, Kyoto - Hiroshima is about 11.000yen/one way. However Kyoto - Osaka is only 560yen. So using a 7 day JR Pass for the longer trips, then doing travel between Kyoto and Osaka after and buying normal tickets there would make the most sense.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Many thanks for your reply. This would indeed make the most sense but we wanted to alternate between few day stays in cities and traveling. If we were to go for the 14 day passes and activate them on arrival, do you see any trips during our stay which would not be covered by the pass?

Many thanks in advance,

Damien
