Hi there,

I plan to visit Japan this coming new year with my husband and 3 children. Can you help us to get best use of the 7 days JR pass? We will arrive in Osaka first then we wish to visit Kyoto, Yokohama and Tokyo then back to Osaka for our flight back home. I have to allocate 3 days for Disneyland/Disneysea, which day should I start my JR pass so that the ticket cover the last trip back to Osaka?

Should I buy Ordinary JR pass or Green pass? Do I need to reserved a seat, is it a must or optional? What else do I need to bare in mind?

Hope to receive your reply soon.

Thank you,
Vivian

Hi Vivian,

I would recommend using a 7 day JR Pass, if you can at least cover Kyoto - Tokyo - Osaka with it. These are the most expensive trips and a JR Pass would give you the best possible savings here.

For this trip I think that an Ordinary JR Pass would be more than enough. Seat reservations are recommended but generally not required. Only around busy period like New Year are seat reservations needed, then I recommend getting tickets 2-4 days in advance.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
