Hello, I and my gf were exploring Japan travel options and I have a question about it.
We need 5 trains.
Osaka airport to Osaka
Osaka to Nara
Nara to Kyoto
Kyoto to Tokyo
Tokyo to Tokyo Airport

When I check google maps, it shows total cost amount of these lines (hopefully it is correct) and when I add up I get close to 20000 Yen per person which is much less than 50000 Yen price tag for JR pass - 1 week.

I believe JR pass have some local transport benefits too but I am not sure if the costs of these local travels will add up to a sizeable amount to justify JR pass.

Theremore my question is; am I missing something or is JR pass too expensive for our itenary?

We tend to talk as much as we can while exploring cities so probably we will use very few amount of local subways etc.

Thank you :)

Hi there,

If that's your itinerary then you're probably better off separately buying the tickets. If you wish to include other small trips or destinations it may be beneficial for you to look at our JR Fare Calculator, in the link below:

Hope this helps!
