Why do most of the Japanese rail passes insist on consequitive days of travel? I would like to spend more than one day in my chosen destinations!

Hi there,
While the JR Pass is counted in consecutive days, you don't have to use it everyday. Its even possible to make enough savings on a single day.
For instance using a JR Pass for a return Tokyo - Osaka is enough in order to break even.
