questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

osaka (kyoto) - tokyo

Osaka (Kyoto) - Tokyo

is JP Rail Pass advisable for our trip below:

Apr 25 - Arriving at KIX Osaka ---- Hotel in Shin Osaka
Apr 26 - Osaka (Universal)
Apr 27 - Osaka (Osaka Castle and sight seeing) (Maybe, day tour in Kyoto)
Apr 28 - Osaka -> Tokyo
Apr 29 - Tokyo (Disney Sea and Disney Land) ---- Hotel in Shibuya
Apr 30 - Tokyo
May1 - Tokyo
May2 - Tokyo
May3 - Shibuya Hotel -> Departing from Tokyo -> NRT Airport

Considering JP Rail is 7days and 14 days only.

We are thinking if it is reasonable for over night travel via Willer bus Osaka to Tokyo if it will save us a lot as well as skip hotel accommodation.

thank you!!!

Hello there,

For this itinerary I would advise buying normal train tickets as you travel. A 7 day JR Pass would work great if you make a return Tokyo - Osaka, however you'd not be able to make savings with just one way.

You also mention night buses, having used them on several occasions myself, personally I would avoid them. This because you may lose the next day due to fatigue if you can't sleep on the bus. I know some people are perfectly okay with sleeping on the bus, I simply can't do it.

Hope this helps,

Hi Daniel,

Thanks a lot! This helped us a lot to start our planning.. Is Pasmo the card we can use to buy normal train tickets?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi again,

Yes Pasmo, Suica, Icoca or basically any other IC Card. They all work. Note that you do need to buy a normal train ticket if you plan to use the Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Tokyo.
