I will be spending 13 days in Japan this October, arriving at Narita Aiport, taking the JR line ti my hotel. The first 10 days will be in Tokyo then onto Osaka for 3 days. What day trips would you recommend from both Tokyo and Asaka to maximize a 14 day rail pass?

Hi there,
You would need quite a bit of additional travel, I guess you could see it as a challenge to make as good a use out of the JR Pass as you could.
Adding some day trips would be a good start, think of Kamakara and Nikko from Tokyo and places like Himeji, Hiroshima and Kinosaki-onsen from Osaka.
