Does a JR pass make sense for us?

Hi,

We are a family of 5 with 3 children ages 11, 12, & 15. Would a JR pass make sense for us or some other combination? We would like the quickest and most direct routes. Should we bring our luggage on any of the legs? I have not figured out the luggage delivery option. Our itinerary as follows:

7/18 arrive Narita, private car to hotel in Chuo
7/19 Tokyo
7/20 Tokyo
7/21 Tokyo
7/22 Tokyo to Hakone
7/23 Hakone to Hiroshima
7/24 Hiroshima and Miyajima
7/25 Hiroshima to Kyoto
7/26 Kyoto
7/27 Kyoto
7/28 Kyoto to Tokyo Chuo
7/29 hotel to Narita and fly home

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi there,

I think a 7 day JR Pass would be an amazing option here. Travel to Hiroshima especially is expensive and the JR Pass would help you make fantastic savings here. The Pass would cover travel to all the cities you plan to visit but you may still need local transport too, this also applies to Hakone.

You could either use the JR Pass from 7/22 to 7/28 or from 7/23 to 2/29 both would be good options.

You can bring your suitcase on the trains, no problem. There is space in the overhead compartments and at the end of each train car.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
