Hi there

Myself and girlfriend will arrive in Japan on March 28th,
It is our first time to visit Japan, and will be during the cherry blossom season :)

We have many days included for Tokyo and Kyoto, as I am a photographer and will need those days there, i have booked accomodation for those dates as places were disappearing fast!
But all the rest of the itinerary is open to change if I'm missing out on somewhere?

I just need advice on my itinerary and the best rail pass to maximise my trip? 14 day? 21? 🤔

28- Land in Tokyo 7pm
29- Tokyo - city sights / parks
30 - Tokyo - city sights
31 - Tokyo - Kamakura
1- Tokyo - Nikko
2 Tokyo festival

3 - Nagano - See snow monkeys (without snow😐) and Matsumoto, Stay Nagano
4 Takayama
5 takayama - side trip to shirakawa go
6 Kyoto
7 Kyoto - local sights
8 Kyoto
9 Kyoto - Nara
10 Kyoto mt Koya
11 Hiroshima - miyajima, Stay Hiroshima (no accom left on miyajima 🙁)
12kawaguchiko long day of trains, maybe arrive in time for sunset, food, bed
13 kawaguchiko
14 kawaguchiko
15- 8pm flight from Narita

Thanks a lot

Hello there,

You are travelling in the Sakura period and that is when most people visit Japan. International booking websites my sell out quickly but you may still find accommodations using Japan focused websites, like Rakuten travel, Japanican, website from a hotel directly and so on. I was able to find several (sometimes pricey) options for the days that you are in Hiroshima.

Your itinerary stay in and around Tokyo will not cost a lot in terms of travel costs and a JR Pass is best used when you start making longer trips. To Nikko or Nagano. Since you will stay around Kawaguchiko for a while, I think it would make most sense to use a 14 day JR Pass from March 31st to Kamakura. This would give you the best possible savings.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks a lot Daniel, :)

I will check those sites for accom asap!

I wondered about using the 14Day pass from those Dates also,
but i thought maybe
If i was to use a 21Day, To cover getting to and from the airport and anything else in Tokyo, it might work out around the same price as getting 14 Day, plus the paying for Airport train and other bits and bobs?

Also do you think the itinerary is ok, anything you would add or take away, Only Tokyo and Kyoto are fixed

Thanks a lot for your help :D
