We are travelling from Mar 5-13, a 9 day travel and computing if worth taking 7 day pass or 14 day or individual area pass like an Osaka, want to know what is the right combination

our etinerary is as follows
Route 1: narita airport to Gotanda
Route 2: Tour around Tokyo (Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, Asakusa, Akihabara,Ginza, Hamamatsucho, Odaiba)
Route 3: Tokyo - Kawaguchiko (Mt Fuji) here mostly will be spending time in hotel Route 4: Kawaguchiko (Mt Fuji) - Osaka this part really confused me as travel seems to be ranging from 4 hours to 12 hours, and a lot of switches. checkout wise from Hotel (Fuji Lake Hotel) would like to know what time and mid afternoon to shorten travel and use shinkansen.

Route 5: Tour around Osaka - we will have Universal studios here Route 6: Osaka - Kyoto and Nara if possible Route 7: Osaka Airport

thanks
Thess

Hello Thess,

For this route I would advise buying normal train tickets in Japan as the cost of these will be below the cost of a JR Pass. The JR Pass works well if you visit different regions in Japan, for instance a return trip Tokyo - Osaka will quickly pay for the JR Pass. In your itinerary this is limited to one way.

Travel from Kawaguchiko to Kyoto is indeed a long and difficult trip to make. The best option is to take an express bus from Kawaguchiko to Mishima station and from there take the Shinkansen to Kyoto or Osaka. The route takes about 5 hours. A bus time table can be found here.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks is there such per area passes we can take like osaka region? At that point we are actually residing in osaka
On our travel to kyoto or nara. Will that be ok in case we purchase a JR pass?

We only have 3 sleeping destinations which is Tokyo Mt Fuji and Osaka

Hi again!

The JR Pass does include travel to Kyoto and Nara but I am not sure if any regional pass would suit your itinerary. As local travel does not cost a lot for the routes you plan to visit.
