Thank you for a great website and forum
I'm not very sure its 100% workable but will appreciate all advice. 10 APR 2018
Day 1 - Land Narita airport (0700) -- Tokyo
Day 2 - Tokyo (Disney)
Day 3 - Tokyo -- Nagoya(short visit) -- Kyoto
Day 4 - Kyoto
Day 5 - Kyoto
Day 6 - Kyoto -- Gero(short visit) -- Takayama (Festival)
Day 7 - Takayama -- Shirakawago
Day 8 - Shirakawago -- bus direct to Toyama OR bus to Takayama -- Toyama
Day 9 - Toyama (Tateyama Alpen) -- Shinano-Omachi -- Matsumoto(pass-by) -- Otsuki -- Kawaguchiko (MT Fuji)
Day 10 Kawaguchiko -- Otsuki -- Tokyo
Day 11- Tokyo - Depart Narita (flight 11:00)

Quest 1: Not sure if JR pass is the best choice or perhap I can break it down to save more.
Notice local train/subway for Tokyo/Kyoto do not exactly cover by JR pass.
Day 9 seem tight schedule but I guess it wont be a problem if the Tateyama Alpen road is still not open

Quest 2 :..However I would love suggestions as I couldn't find a better route to go after Takayama. If I go on to Matsumoto it will take half day train (kinda wasted)

Hi there,

This is indeed a difficult itinerary, especially near the end where you visit the Alpine route and Kawaguchiko. Technically it would be possible but you should indeed ask yourself if you want to spend that much time on the train. Even if you just sit, travel does get exhausting after a while.

Also Kawaguchiko is famous for its view on Fuji but you may not see Fuji at all if the weather is bad. So I feel it is a lot of effort for a big risk and would personally not do it. Instead you could stop at Kofu. It is on the route from Matsumoto - Shinjuku and you can view Fuji from there on a good day from there. Or visit Matsumoto, it is also a charming city.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
