Hi Team,

We are travelling at the end of September for around 22 days with the following itinerary:

Narita - Tokyo
Tokyo 4 nights
Kanazawa 3 nights
Kyoto 4 nights
Hiroshima 2 nights
Okayama 3 nights with day trips to Kurashiki and Himeji
Fuji Five Lakes area 3 nights
Tokyo / Narita

I have looked at the numerous pass options available to us and have got rather confused. Using your calculator it says our travel equates to Y81,000 which makes the 21 day JR Pass uneconomical, so I am thinking that using one or two of the regional passes plus separate tickets would suit us better. The question is which one/s. Any advice gratefully received.

Hello there,

Yes, this is correct. It is harder now to make savings with the pass but there are good regional options available. My recommendation for your trip would be the Kansai - Hiroshima Area Pass. This works well for travel between Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima. It can only be used for Kurashiki and Himeji.

Then buy normal ticket from Tokyo to Kanazawa/Kyoto and back to Fuji.

Kind regards,
Daniel
