JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass (but staying in Kyoto)

Hello,

We're in torn to decide either JR Pass 7 days or the regional one.
Our itinerary is:
Day 1 - 7 in Tokyo
Day 8 in Fuji
Day 9-10 in Takayama
Day 11-15 in Kyoto (thinking to do day trips)
Day 16-19 in Osaka (inc a trip to USS)

Plan day trips: Kobe / Himeji / Nara / Hiroshima.

IF we were to get the 7 days JR Pass, we can use it from Takayama to Kyoto (Day 11) however we can't use Nozomi trains.
So we're thinking toward the regional pass - JR Kansai Hiroshima but it looks like the the Nozomi only covers from Shin Osaka (Tokaido Shinkansen between Kyoto and Osaka is not covered). Happy to purchase the additional ticket from Takayama > Kyoto seperately if buying regional pass.

My question is if we were to purchase JR Kansai Hiroshima and starting the trip from Kyoto - can we purchase a separate Nozomi ticket from Kyoto > Shin Osaka but continuing the same seat / train from Shin Osaka > Hiroshima (basically same Shinkansen from Kyoto > Hiroshima)? Is this possible?

Is there any regional pass that covers Shinkansen between Kyoto / Osaka?

Hi there,

Yes, this would be possible. Though the free option, would be to take a fast local train from Kyoto to Shin-Osaka and use the Nozomi from there.

As the Kyoto - Osaka part is operated by JR Central, there is no JR West pass that covers this. Personally, I'd opt for a 7-day JR Pass as it gives you good savings from travel to Takayama - Kyoto, Hiroshima and back. You can use the Sakura and Hikari trains on this route and minimal time difference on the Nozomi.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel.
Could I please check about your comments earlier on free option on fast local train from Kyoto to Shin-Osaka? Is this really free if we purchase the regional pass?

We are thinking to get 7 days JR pass with the flexibility in case of impromptu day trip on day 6 or day 7.

Also on the Navi app / website/
I’m trying to check the costs of each trip. Can I please ask if the fares are pretty accurate? I’ve put in the trip from Fujikyu highland to Otsuki station. It comes up as 3 prices : JPY 1,100 IC / JPY 400 non reserved seat / JPY 1,300 green car. Do I just see the first fare JPY 1,100 on IC? Or adding the ¥400 non reserved seat as well (total ¥1,500 for the trip)?

Thank you again.

Hi again,

"Kyoto to Shin-Osaka? Is this really free if we purchase the regional pass?" Yes, if you use a fast local train. Called special rapid.

The fare for Fujikyu highland to Otsuki station is 1.100yen when using a normal non-reserved seat.

Kind regards,
Daniel
