Hi all,

Travelling to Japan in October/November from Tokyo to Takayama and down to Kyoto/Osaka. The best pass seems to be the 7 day Osaka/Tokyo Hokuriku Pass but it seems to stop at Inotani. Does this mean I have to pay for an extra ticket to Takayama and how to I go about this - do I purchase it in Tokyo as an ad on?

Thank you for your help

Hi there,

Yes, that'd be my suggestion. You'd have to purchase a separate ticket, which can even be done online now but it would mean that you are unaware of your timings for when you travel. You could also consider purchasing a ticket at Inotani last-minute as its not a particularly busy service, but it may be a risk if you are travelling with others as there is the possibility that you do not find available seats together. These tickets can be purchased at ticket machines or JR ticket offices found in JR train stations.

Kind regards,

Alexis
