Hi Daniel-san

We are a family of 5 (all above 12 years old) and is travelling to Japan from 27 Nov to 11 Dec. Our draft itinerary is:
27 Nov - Tokyu
1 Dec - Sapporo
8 Dec - Osaka
11 Dec - Tokyu back Singapore

We are keen to purchase the JR pass. May I know which is the most suitable for us. Thank you very much.

Hi there,

It will depend on how you wish to travel to Sapporo and Osaka. The trip Sapporo - Osaka by rail is really long and will take a good 10 hours if done in one go. It may make more sense to book a domestic flight on this route. The same is true from Tokyo - Sapporo, going with a family, you may just want to book a flight. In that case a JR Pass would not be of good value. At the same time, if you do travel Tokyo - Sapporo - Osaka by rail, then a 7-day or 14-day JR Pass provides you with excellent value.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel san.

What about the trip from Osaka to Tokyu from 8 to 11 Dec?
Is the JR pass recommended or should we buy single trip tickets?
