Hello,

I am travelling to Japan for 14 days, starting and finishing in Tokyo.

The amount of time outside Tokyo (Tochigi to Hiroshima) is 8 days.

My question is, would it be better value to:

a) use a 14 day rail pass to cover the whole trip

or

b) buy a 7 day rail pass to cover 7 of the 8 days, and purchase individual tickets for the Tochigi travel, while using the suica card to get around Tokyo?

Many thanks for your help!

Hi there,

You do enough travel for a 14 day JR Pass to help you make savings. Think it is mostly a question of flexibility vs budget. Option B is likely more economic but may need a bit more planning. While with the 14 day JR Pass you just wave your pass and get on the train. It would also give you the ability to take any train you want, maybe for a couple of cool day trips from Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
