Hello JR,

We will arrive Tokyo (Narita) on Monday 30 April and depart the following Monday 7 May 2018. We will be travelling from Tokyo to Osaka and then from Osaka directly back to Narita airport to fly home to Australia.

Can you please advise the following questions:

  • Will it be cheaper to purchase a JR rail pass for our itinerary?

  • Will the itinerary be considered to meet 7 days? From Monday 1700hrs to Monday 1700hrs? As would like our Narita to Tokyo trip to also be included.

  • From Osaka can we use our JR pass to undertake day trip to say Nara or Kyoto?

Any advice you can provide will be of assistance.

Thank you

Jay

Hi Jay,

1.) A 7 day JR Pass is recommended if you can at least cover a return Tokyo/Narita - Osaka with it.

2.) The pass is counted in days (not hours) activating it on a Monday, would mean that the last day of use is the following Sunday.

3.) Yes, both can be reached using the JR Pass. As well as many other day trips like Kobe, Hiroshima and Wakayama.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
