Hi,

I will be travelling to Kyoto and Tokyo from 10-18 June. We will be arriving at KIX and then heading to Kyoto first before going to Tokyo. We are planning to take 1-2 day trips from Kyoto to Nara and Miyajima. From Kyoto to Tokyo, we were considering taking the overnight bus as well. We will depart from Tokyo back home. Would you recommend taking the JR Pass instead? How would the cost breakdown/savings be like? Thank you!

Hi there,

I would definitely recommend a 7 day JR Pass for your itinerary. As it will help you make great savings. A return Kyoto - Hiroshima is 22,180 yen and a one way Kyoto - Tokyo ¥ 13,600. Together that's already well above the cost of a 7 day JR Pass (29,110) and you can use the JR Pass elsewhere too.

Personally, I would avoid the night bus where possible. It may seem tempting to save money but you may not be able to sleep and lose a day to fatigue. That's a real waste when you only have 9 days in Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
