Should I Buy a JR Pass or Individual tickets?

Dear JR Pass Team,

Hope having a good day !

Im Traveling End of October to Mid November with my Husband and 4 year old girl. Can you help me to know which will be the best option to buy R Pass or Individual tickets or a Mix based on our itinerary?

Our Itinerary will Be:

Day 1 - Haneda Airport - Tokyo
Day 2 and 3 - Tokyo
Day 4 and 5 - Nikko
Day 6 to 8 - Tokyo
Day 9 and 10 - Hakone
Day 11 and 12 - Kanazawa
Day 13 and 14 - Takayama
day 15 to 17 - Kioto
Day 18 and 19 - Nara
Day 20 to 23 - Osaka
Day 24 - Tokio
Day 25 - Haneda

Also, can you share some tips to travels with kids? I would like to understand what's correct and what's not on public transportation.

Hi Mayra,

Given your itinerary, a combination of the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass (5 days) and individual tickets would be the best-value option. The full list of exchange locations for this pass can be found here.

A 4-year-old child does not require a pass; however, this means she is not entitled to her own reserved seat. While she is welcome to sit with you, if you would prefer her to have a dedicated seat, you would need to purchase a child pass.
