Regional JR East Hokkaido vs Standard Rail Pass vs Pay per Trip

Our itinerary is as follows:
Jan 19th arrive in Tokyo
Jan 20th travel to Niseko, Hokkaido (potentially start the JR East Regional Pass 14 pass or Standard 14 day Pass)
Jan 24th travel to Nozawa Onsen in Japanese Alps from Niseko (I am not sure if the JR East Pass will cover this?)
Jan 28th travel to Hakuba, Happo 1 from Nozawa Onsen
Feb 1st travel back to Tokyo from Hakuba.

I would be most grateful if you could let me know what the most economical way to carry out this trip.

Many thanks in advance,

Nick

Hi Nick,

I think a Japan Rail Pass is an easy choice for your trip, a one way Tokyo - Niseko is around ¥ 25,110. This nearly covers the price of a 7 day JR Pass. Going back to and visiting Nozawa and Hakobu will only add to that. As you say, a JR East pass would not cover all your travel.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
