Day 1: arrive Osaska
Day 2: Osaka
Day 3: Osaka - Koyasan
Day 4: Koyasan - Hiroshima
Day 5: Miyajima
Day 6: Hiroshima - Kyoto
Day 7: Kyoto
Day 8: Kyoto - Hakone
Day 9 Hakone - Tokyo
Day 10: Tokyo
Day 11: Depart
Would the JR Pass be worth it? When should we activate it? On Day 4?

Hi Rob,
Yes, a 7 day JR Pass would be well worth it when used from day 4 to day 10. Note that you'd first have to travel from Koya-san to Osaka to activate our JR Pass and from there you could use the Shinkansen to Hiroshima.
