We will be flying to Narita Airport and we are staying with friends in Yokosuka. I believe we will take the train down.
After some local exploring we will be heading west to Kyoto to site see. Does the JR pass work on any lines/public transit in Kyoto?
We will then take the train back to Yokosuka before heading back to Narita Airport.
Would the 7 day JR pass pay off?
Thank you!
JR uses around Tokyo/Yokosuka/Kyoto

Hi there,
The JR Pass is valid on local JR lines in Kyoto, however these only provide access to the south and west side of the city. For instance you can visit Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari and Uji using the JR Pass.
Looking at your travel all together, a 7 day JR Pass is an interesting option. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket between Kanto and Kansai. If you use it to travel on the Shinkansen, then only a little more travel would be required to make savings, think of a one way to Narita airport.
You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
