I arrive in Japan in June 9. I hope to use Suica to get around Tokyo (going to Kamakura and Hakone) before travelling to Takayama on June 16. I want to see the countryside — should I get the Hida wide-view train — and will go to Kanazawa and Kyoto before I leave from Osaka on the 26th. Can you tell me is a JR pass cheaper than paying as I go?
Sincerely, Stephen

Hi Stephen,
The Hide Wide View is a very scenic train (and definitely on my top 10 trains to ride in Japan). I'd definitely recommend riding it if you have time possibility.
After Osaka, will you fly out from there or return to Tokyo? Depending on this you could consider a JR Pass.
Kind regards,
Daniel
