I will be arriving Tokyo Narita on 25/12/17. This is basically a ski and gourmet trip as we have visited Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo before. so far, my plan is as follows :

25/12 - 29/12/17 Arrive Narita transfer to Nozawa Onsen

29/12/17 to 1/1/18 Osaka

1/1/18 to 3/1/18 Kyoto

3/1/18 to 6/1/18 Tokyo

As I have 3 boys (age 25, 23, 17), where is the best place to spend New Year's Eve (countdown party) ? As I know that many restaurants and attraction will be close on New year's day, is it a good idea to be in Osaka during this period.

Alternatively, please give me your suggestion on the itinerary. please also advise how we can travel from city to city.

Thank you.

Hi there,

Spending new year in a big city like Osaka or Tokyo is the best place if you want to go to some restaurants or shops. Major cities are much more likely to be open, major departments stores will also be open and you will have enough to do.

I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass for your transport, you can use it from the 29th and have enough time to travel back to Tokyo. You can use the Shinkansen to travel from Nozowa to Osaka, with one transfer at Tokyo station.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Daniel

With the JR pass can I use to commute within the cities eg in Tokyo ?
What is the difference between the regular tickets and first class ?
Can I use the JR pass to travel from Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo ?
Since I'm leaving on 6 Jan 18 and the pass would have expired, how much is the cost to get to the airport ?
Is there any airport transfer available and how much is it ?
