Just to recap we are not sure whether to buy a 7 or 14 day Pass Our trip starts 5/22 from New York to Henada arriving late in 5/23. Staying Tokyo until 5/25 leaving for kyoto on 5/25 staying until 5/28 leaving for Koyasan then leaving 5/29 for Naoshima from 5/29-5/31
We then leave on 5/31 to Nara from 5/31-6/2. Then back toTokyo from6/2 to leaving HenAda on 6/4 for New York

My question is what parts of trip is covertly and by which lines? Are there non covered portions and if so are they easy to connect to and are they costly?
That being said are we better getting a 7 or 14 day Pass and which parts of trip should we use Pass for (when is best day to activate)
Are transfer difficult? Do we need to get a Green Ticket or are regular ticket seat ok?

Thanks again for your help

Hello there,

You are right in between got spots for a 7 day and 14 day JR Pass. The 7 day JR Pass would be really good if used to make the trip and return to Tokyo before it expires, while a 14 day JR Pass would need a little more travel to be cost efficient. If you keep the plan as is, that it would likely be the best option to buy normal train tickets as you travel.

The only part not covered by the JR Pass would be part of the way to Koya-san, specifically between Hashimoto station and Koya. Transfers in general are easy, the only that could be a bit confusing is going from the JR to the Nankai railway for Koyasan but this is not something to worry about, its just a matter of going to the station and following the signs :) and in case you do get confused, just ask the staff for directions.

A regular ticket would be fine, both as a JR Pass or normal rail ticket.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
