Hi,

I'm traveling with my family to Japan in September 2018, below is my itinerary
Day 1 - Reach Narita and travel to Kyoto and settle

Day 2 - Explore surroundings of Kyoto

Day 3 - Universal studios

Day 4 - Start from Kyoto to Tokyo and stay in Tokyo and explore some parts in Tokyo

Day 5 - Explore Tokyo

Day 6 - Explore Tokyo and settle near Narita

Day 7 - Start from Narita.

I will be reaching Narita in the afternoon. I'm planning to go Kyoto on the day same day and I've to get the JR voucher prior to reaching Japan right? I can also get the JR pass from the airport center and reserve the seat in train to Kyoto right?

Also please suggest any improvement in the itinerary and any suggestions during the trip.

Hi there,

A JR would be cost effective for your trip. While you can buy the pass on arrival in Japan, it costs 10-20% compared to buying the JR Pass online.

You can activate the JR Pass at Narita Airport, reserve your seats and start using it right away.

I think your trip looks good for a day trip. Let me know what kinds of things you are interested in and I can give you some recommendations :)

Kind regards,
Daniel
