Hi Team,

Could you please confirm if this is doable by mostly using the JR pass?

Day 1: Land at Haneda Airport in the evening
Day 2 & 3: Tokyo
Day 4: Mount Fuji & Hakone
Day 5: Takayama
Day 6 & Day 7: Kyoto
Day 8: Koya-San
Day 9: Back to Tokyo and flight back at night

Questions I need help with:

  1. What is the best route to reach from Hakone to Takayama?
  2. What is the best route to reach from Takayama to Kyoto ?
  3. What is the best route to reach from Koya-San to Tokyo?

Should we re-shuffle the itinerary?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

The JR Pass will cover the major part of your travel and help you make good savings, that said, there are parts that are not fully covered. This included travel around Fuji and between Koya-san and Osaka.

1.) Take the Shinkansen from Odawara station (in Hakone) to Nagoya, then Hida Wide view to Takayama.

2.) Take the Hide Wide view back to Nagoya, then Shinkansen to Kyoto.

3.) Travel back from Koya-san to Kyoto, then Hikari Shinkansen to Tokyo.

We have a write up on how to reach Koya-san here:

Hope this helps,
Daniel
