Hi, wondering if It's a good idea to buy a 7 day Jr rail pass for the last 7 days of my 11 day trip.

11/10 Arriving at HND Airport
-would moving around Tokyo for 4 days in the Metro system save us any money? 11/13 travel to Kyoto
11/18 travel to Mount Koya
11/19 travel to Hiroshima
11/21 travel back to Tokyo/HND airport

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Hello Walter,

A 7 day JR Pass for the 7 last days of your itinerary is a very good option. You will make considerable savings compared to purchasing normal tickets and the pass would cover most of your travels.

Note that travel to Mt. Koya is not fully covered by the JR Pass. You can use the JR Pass as far as Hashimoto station, from there normal tickets on the Nankai Express are required.

For Tokyo, it will depend on where you travel within the metropolis. I'd recommend looking into buying day tickets for the metro or JR. Otherwise, a Suica card can be a really handy option, although it will not save you money.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
