Travel to Takayama, Hida-Furukawa, Shirakawago & Nagoya

Hello,
Next year 2023 in March-April, I'll be staying in Kyoto and using it as a home base. Is it possible to go visit Takayama, Hida-Furukawa and Shirakawago in a 2 day period with an overnight stay in Takayama or Hida? On the same trip I plan on staying overnight in Nagoya on the way back to Kyoto. I'd like to go to Nagoya Castle, Shirotori Garden, Osu-Kannon, Tokugawa Art Museum and Arimatsu. Does this sound doable? If you have any other suggestion for Nagoya that would be great! Thanks so much for all your help! You are terrific!

Hi there,

Yes, I've done a very similar trip when I was studying in Kyoto years ago and it is certainly possible, but also busy! I'd probably add a 3rd night in Nagoya if you can. As between travel and sightseeing, you'll also need some time to relax.

Personally, I enjoyed Nagoya castle a lot and there's a lot of fun shopping and food to be had around Sakae Metro stop (walkable from Nagoya station). Nagoya tower is also great place to finish the day, if you enjoy night views.

Have a good trip!

Daniel-san,
Thank you so much for prompt response and your advice! Sorry to be so slow in replying, but I've been rethinking my plans and may just go to Nagoya and cutting back on the attractions to visit of course. Thinking of maybe going to Amanohashidate for 1/2 day and then staying overnight at a ryokan in Kinosaki Onsen. This sounds more relaxing. Takayama will have to wait for a future Japan trip. I really appreciate all your help. Been reading a lot of your responses in the forum and you are so helpful!

Hi Eileen,

These are all lovely options as well. I've not yet been to Amanohashidate, but it looks rather beautiful!

Kinosaki Onsen is a relaxing visit, be sure to try a couple different onsen :)

Have a good trip!
Daniel
