Travel from Osaka to Hakuba

Hi, I’m looking for some advice on travelling from Osaka to Hakuba on 17 January 2027 for 7 people ( 5 adults and 2 kids).

From what I’ve seen, the best train route seems to be train from our accommodation to Shin-Osaka Station, then taking the Shinkansen to Nagoya, a train to Nagano, followed by a shuttle bus to Hakuba.

Would you recommend this route, or is there a better or easier option? I’m also wondering whether there might be other train options available once bookings open for our travel date later this year.

Thanks, Kristy 😊

Hi Kristy,

If you prefer to travel by train, the route via Nagoya is indeed your best choice. That said, given your group size, another great option is the Direct Express Bus (Alpico Express).

Alpico runs a direct Highway Bus service from Osaka to Hakuba. The journey takes between 5.5 and 6.5 hours depending on traffic, whereas the train ride takes around 5 hours.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
