Narita-Tokyo-Kyoto and back

I'm planning on visiting Japan in the next couple of days and I wanted to ensure that I was choosing the right tickets. I would be arriving through Narita, so I was thinking of taking the Narita Express to Tokyo to visit some friends for a couple of days. On the third day, I would be leaving for Kyoto and staying there for the next 4 days for work. Then going back to Kyoto for the flight home. In total, it would be 9 days, so I figured the cheapest way would be to buy the ticket for the Narita Express and a 7 day JR Pass for the bullet train back and forth. I'd appreciate any input you may provide.

Hi there,

You've basically already done your homework. I would also recommend a 7 day JR Pass for 1 trip on the Narita Express and the return Tokyo - Kyoto. Adding any more travel after that is just a nice bonus.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for your response. So just to confirm, it would be 1 NEX ticket for day 1 (arrival at Narita-> Tokyo), and the JR Pass for the trip to Kyoto on day 3 and back on day 9 (7 days apart) Would that same JR Pass cover the NEX going from Tokyo to Narita? Or would it be better to purchase the round trip NEX ticket from the beginning?
