Hi guys, I plan to visit Japan next Feb. My plan is visiting aomori, and maybe Hakodate, then back south to kawazu + mount Fuji. I've checked the map n it shows the pass covers aomori to Hakodate but not kawazu, the furthest it goes in that direction is Ito station. So does the JR pass covers JR east lines, or do I have to transfer at Ito? Also is my plan too far-fetched for a 9 day trip? Cos I checked the traveling time is like 3,4 hrs spanning across Japan so I planned across different region

Hi there,

The Nationwide JR Pass covers your travel up to Ito Station. Beyond Ito, you will need to travel on the Izu Kyuko Line to reach Kawazu. The only regional pass that fully covers the route all the way to Kawazu is the JR TOKYO Wide Pass. Please note that while the train company changes at Ito Station, many Limited Express Odoriko trains run directly through to Kawazu, so you will not necessarily need to change trains.

It is certainly doable, though covering Hakodate to Kawazu on a 9-day itinerary is quite a packed schedule. However, Shinkansen journeys in Japan are wonderfully comfortable so if you enjoy scenic train rides, it can still be a fantastic experience!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
