Hi there,
I do recommend using a 7 day JR Pass the cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka using the Shinkansen.
The JR Pass also allows you to travel to/from the airport and covers travel to Nagoya and on local JR lines in both Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya.
