Is JR Pass the cheapest option?

I'll be travelling from Osaka to Kyoto on Tuesday 18th April; from Kyoto to Tokyo on Saturday 22nd of April; from Tokyo to Aomori on Thursday 27th April and returning from Aomori back to Tokyo on Sunday 30th April. (I will possibly be going straight to Narita on my return from Aomori rather than central Tokyo).

Is the JR Pass my cheapest option and is it valid for all of these journeys? Any advice is very welcome and appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there,

Yes, the JR Pass is by far the most economic option and the only rail pass that covers the whole area where you travel in.

This includes the Hayabusa Shinkansen from Tokyo - Aomori. Which is the fastest Shinkansen in Japapn. I do see that you'll travel during golden week. I would recommend getting your tickets 3-4 days in advance for the trip to Aomori and back.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi Daniel,

Thank you very much for your reply. Should I book my Tokyo - Aomori ticket in advance at a station/outlet in Japan, or is it possible to book in advance online once I have my JR Pass?

Also, would my JR pass cover my trip from Osaka airport to central Osaka?

Many Thanks,

Alex
