Gday my wife and i travell to japan mid august for 16 nites. Our itinery is day 1 to 6 tokyo..day 7 travel to Osaka for 5 nites..day 12 travel to kagoshima which is our last place to stay bfor we fly back to tokyo to travel home.
While at Tokyo we want to visit mount fuji and Universal studios..while at Osaka we want to visit Kyoto and Hiroshima.
I realise from Osaka to Kagoshima is approx 5 hours by bullet train and i would like to use bullet trains for our other longer excursions.
Could you tell me please if a 14 day jr pass is best or should we just buy our tickets at jr stations as we head off on our travel days ?
Thanks Flinky
Is it best value to buy 14 day jr pass
Hi there,
I think a 7-day JR Pass is likely to be worth it as you'll be mainly using the Shinkansen bullet trains for most of your trip, meaning that purchasing a pass is likely to be the most cost-effective option especially considering Shinkansen travel from Hiroshima to Tokyo. You won't need a JR Pass for your first 6 days as it is unlikely to be a cost-effective option - for those first 6 days I'd suggest purchasing tickets to Fuji etc. individually.
Hope this helps!
Alexis
