Hi everyone, just wondering the best day trips to go on from tokyo and how to go about it. This is my first time in japan and I am looking for the best things to do whilst in japan. I am looking to tour japan from tokyo the first week then tour tokyo it's self for a week. Hopefully you's can help me. Thanks
For a base idea and some inspiration have a look at this itinerary.
Other great day trips from Tokyo include:
Nikko, I've always found it to be one of the most impressive places to visit in Japan.
Fuji, either a day trip to the Fuji Five Lakes area or Hakone is well recommended.
Kamakura, visit the big Buddha and be amazed by the local scenery.
Hope this helps,
There are many good places to visit - it depends a lot on your interests and the season, etc. Nikko is certainly one of the best - some thing are still under renovation but it is worth seeing for a day, or even two. Kamakura/Enoshima makes a great trip, as does either the Fuji 5 Lakes or Hakone. If you don't want to go far, Yokohama has a number of places to see. If you are going to Japan in the horrendous muggy summer, a trip to Karuizawa is nice by the Alps. Other possibilities are the Izu Peninsula, and Kusatsu.
If you can include those places into a 7 day pass, you can add on the savings. But if you're not planning to travel too far and make a 7 day pass worthwhile, a JR Kanto Area Pass could certainly save you a lot.
Best of luck.
