3 Week Trip to Tokyo

Hello,

I will be staying in Tokyo from Jan 6 to the 27th. I recently purchased a full JRPass, but may be needing to return it, because I'm not sure it was the best choice. I can outline a basic itinerary here:

Arrive at Narita Airport
Travel to homestay in Kamakura
Travel back and forth from Tokyo for 3 weeks.
Travel around tokyo, visiting various Hip Hop hot spots.

I will mostly just be needing to travel around Tokyo, so is the JRPass neccessary, and if not, how much are the charges that will be incurred for returning it?

Hi there,

If you just stay around Tokyo, then the JR Pass may not be the best option, since travel around Tokyo is not very expansive by itself. However if you do make a trip to Kamakura every day, local travel around Tokyo and to the Airport a JR Pass may pay off. For instance a return Tokyo - Kamakura is ¥ 1,780. Single tickets for travel around Tokyo range between ¥ 130 - ¥ 260 depending on the distance and Tokyo - Narita Airport is about ¥ 3,140 with the Narita Express, this all may add up enough for the JR Pass to pay off. Also keep in mind that you can take any train you wish during your time in Japan, including the Shinkansen so making a day trip is really easy. You could even go down to Osaka for a single day or so.

It is also possible to refund your JR Pass. Once the refund is processed you will receive a refund of 85% of the price. If you wish to apply for a refund please contact us at [email protected] with your order number so we start the refund process for you.
