3 Week Trip to Tokyo

If you just stay around Tokyo, then the JR Pass may not be the best option, since travel around Tokyo is not very expansive by itself. However if you do make a trip to Kamakura every day, local travel around Tokyo and to the Airport a JR Pass may pay off. For instance a return Tokyo - Kamakura is ¥ 1,780. Single tickets for travel around Tokyo range between ¥ 130 - ¥ 260 depending on the distance and Tokyo - Narita Airport is about ¥ 3,140 with the Narita Express, this all may add up enough for the JR Pass to pay off. Also keep in mind that you can take any train you wish during your time in Japan, including the Shinkansen so making a day trip is really easy. You could even go down to Osaka for a single day or so.
