Hi there,

Japan has a really good public transport system, especially in the bigger cities. You can visit pretty much any tourist sight within these cities once you arrive. For instance, while in Osaka, I would certainly recommend a visit to the Shinsaibashi/Dotonbori area. To get there in when you arrive in Shin-Osaka, take the subway directly there.

In Kyoto I would include Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari, Kyomizu-dera and Nishiki Market.
