Nikko to Sapporo

For Nikko - Sapporo, take the JR Nikko line to Utsunomiya. From there use the Shinkansen to Shin-Hakodate, from where you can use a ltd. express train to Sapporo. I think the best stop over to make would be Hakodate, as it is one of the most interesting cities on the route and you will have to transfer there in any event.
